Maywood Families,

As this year comes to a close Maywood PTSA wants to thank you for your membership, volunteering and donating funds to support Maywood Middle School.

Due to your financial support we were able to give the science department a Classroom Enrichment Grant for the Gizmo program which provided science demonstrations for students as they were virtual learning.

We also provided Musicians in the Classroom, Kindles for the Charger Gold Program (student recognition), “M: cookies for the 8th grade track participants as well as a giant cookie to celebrate Mr. Eggers Retirement.

The Maywood PTSA Staff Appreciation Committee was able to help spoil the staff with a coffee cart as well as delicious treats for Staff Appreciation week.

The Maywood PTSA Golden Acorn Committee presented the Outstanding Educator award to the ENTIRE staff of Maywood.  Every staff member provided support in some way this school year whether it be making lunches, supporting students in need, teaching etc.  They were awarded a plaque, a banner and celebrated with an ice cream party.

Maywood PTSA was able to provide funds the Issaquah PTSA Council Parent Wiser Program which provides Parent Ed seminars throughout the year. As a Maywood PTSA member, admission is free to these events! This year Parent Wiser hosted 10 online seminars

Maywood PTSA supported the National Reflections Program this year and one of our entries made it to the state level with two students receiving an honorable mention.  The 2021-22 theme is “I Will Change the World by…”  Students can start working on their projects now.  Entries will be due at the end of October.  You can find more information at maywoodptsa.org

We appreciate all your support.  Please remember to join, donate and volunteer in August during the EVP process.  To the families moving on to High School we wish you the best of luck.  To the families headed to Cougar Mountain Middle School you will be missed!  We can’t wait to meet up with you again at Liberty.

Lastly, thank you so much to the PTSA Volunteers who served on the board, Erin Thacker, Dawn Carr, Stina Fluegge, Kristi Hammond, Kristi Isaacs, Michelle Riley, Marta Burnet and Michelle Splaver.  Good Luck and many thanks to Dawn, Michelle and Stina as their kids move on to high school.  Thank you to Korre Veitengruber for running the book fair for many years, best of luck to you as you and your student  move on to high school.  To those who helped provide goodies for staff appreciation week, Thank you for your donations.  We appreciate you all.  To those who signed up but were unable to serve due to the pandemic and those I may have missed, we love your heart for volunteering for our kids.  Please consider signing up next year as we hopefully go back to a more normal school year.

Enjoy your summer

The Outstanding Educator Award is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions in their community to enhance the educational outcomes of all children or youth. An educator is not limited to a teacher and may be defined as a teacher, assistant, specialist, support staff, administrator or community member. Recipients receive a certificate and pin, and a contribution is made in their name to the WSPTA Scholarship Program that benefits students.

In March of 2020 I don’t think we had any idea that the traditional school we have been so use to would be turned upside down.  The world may have slowed down but one thing that did not is stop is the classroom.  Staff members pivoted by teaching online at their homes some while their own children sat in the next room learning in their “new classrooms”, Science labs were live on zoom in kitchens, and PE in basements and backyards.  Counselors offering assistance to students by computer while helping distribute food and items to families in need. Food Service staff made breakfast and lunches available to students by waking up in the earlier hours to put together meals and handing them out to families.  Admin staff answered countless calls and email helping families navigate through these crazy times.  Everyone that is part of the Maywood staff played a role in helping the students continue their learning Then another pivot as students came back and staff had to not only teach their zoomies but now their roomies!  You are all so resilient!

With all that said we are honored to award the Outstanding Educator to the entire Maywood Staff.  Thank you all so much for your dedication to our children.  We are all so glad that we are part of school with such an amazing staff.
