Golden Acorn Recipient: Becky Hughes
Becky did a fabulous job chairing the 6th Grade PTSA pizza and bingo party. She also chairs the Charger 100 program every year (3 years running). The Charger 100 program reaches a large number of students at Maywood and is a large undertaking. She also volunteers for book fair and Reflections. Becky volunteers at Newcastle for her daughter's class and has volunteered for the different 4th grade events throughout this year, such as pumpkin caper, etc. She is also team mom at sports for 3 different kids (2 boys and 1 girl). Thank you Becky!
Golden Acorn Award Recipient: Debbie McAllister
Debbie has been on the PTSA Board of Directors as Co-VP of Volunteers for the past 2 years at Maywood. This entails countless hours of work communicating and coordinating to ensure there are the needed volunteers for PTSA and school events. Debbie has also chaired Reflections and volunteered at the Charger 100 each quarter this year and last year. She volunteers in her son's Newcastle classroom, she chaired the 5th Grade Fundraising pizza program to help send our 5th graders to camp, she chaired the Brown Bear Car Wash ticket sales fundraising for camp, and she is helping with the Newcastle Auction. Debbie is the team mom for different sports, including baseball and basketball, and arranges snacks, coach gifts, and all the corresponding scheduling. We really appreciate Debbie!
Golden Acorn Recipient: Elaine Hanson
Elaine has been on the PTSA Board of Directors as Co-VP of Volunteers for the past 2 years at Maywood. This entails countless hours of work communicating and coordinating to ensure there are the needed volunteers for PTSA and school events. Elaine is very involved in Maywood and volunteers for Book Fair, PTSA Charger, and Reflections. Liberty high school also benefits from her significant volunteer efforts with the Liberty Booster club. Thank you for all of your dedication and hard work!
Golden Acorn Award Recipient: Kim Weiss
Kim has been on the Maywood PTSA Board of Directors for 2 years as Treasurer. When she took the job on, the PTSA cash reserves were dangerously low. With her excellent skills in budgeting and projecting cash flow, the board was able to make good financial decisions that have put us in a much better position. Making this happen meant countless hours of work with the financial data. Kim has been very involved in Maple Hills Elementary as well and will be Co-President of the Maywood PTSA next year. We are very grateful for Kim!
Outstanding Educator: Camille Wright
Camille’s list of programs she’s active in include: leading the Teacher’s Union at Maywood, acting as Team Mom for the last two years for Liberty Football Team, supporting the Five Star Football league, acting as Fundraising Chair for the Liberty Rugby Club, and holding several chair positions in the Maywood and Liberty PTSA.
Her fans say that Camille is always putting her students first and has been a constant and attentive educator.
Outstanding Educator: Kim Swan
Kim’s list of ways she has enhanced the education for students include: Weekly Planner Check / Weekly Grade Report for SDR, constant and timely communications with parents, listening and accommodating the special needs of specific students.
Her fans say that Kim is great to work with and has “gone the extra mile” to help her students overcome difficulties they face in their day to day school life.
Outstanding Educator: Gina Winegar
In addition to teaching, Gina spends hours of her time as a drama club advisor. They put on an annual production at the end of March that involves multiple after school practices over a two-month period. She inspires kids to get involved in drama and makes it fun. She also helps coach track and cross-country as well.
Her fans say that Gina is very dedicated to her students and that they genuinely enjoy learning from her and know that she cares.
